The participant is free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program, including single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments, and is not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects. Once the tenant and landlord sign a lease, the tenant's family typically contributes 30%-40% of their income towards rent and utilities, and the HCV program pays the remainder directly to the landlord. CDLI is the Local Administrator for the New York State Homes & Community Renewal (HCR) Housing Choice Voucher program for Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the Town of Hempstead, the Village of Sea Cliff, and select project-based voucher buildings in Brooklyn. For all programs, CDLI oversees tenant eligibility, lease-up, annual recertification, and Housing Quality Standards inspections of all units.
