Preparing for homeownership starts long before purchasing a home. CDLI’s Homebuyer Education: 4-Course program is designed to help first-time homebuyers become mortgage-ready through expert education, personalized counseling, and step-by-step guidance. This comprehensive program fulfills the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) 8-hour homebuyer education requirement. Classes are led by HUD-Certified Housing Counselors and include guidance from loan officers, licensed real estate agents, and real estate attorneys. Participants will learn about: • Budgeting and credit readiness • Renting vs. buying • Mortgage pre-approval and financing options • Down payment assistance and grant opportunities • The roles of lenders, realtors, attorneys, and inspectors • The homebuying process from contract to closing • Post-purchase responsibilities and resources Program Details: • Four-course format for flexible learning • Offered in-person or via Zoom • $50 course fee • Includes a one-on-one counseling session after class completion • Certificate of Completion provided after the full program and counseling session During the one-on-one appointment, a CDLI Housing Educator will review your income, assets, credit, and budget while helping you identify mortgage programs and grants that may fit your goals. Participants receive a personalized action plan and ongoing support as they progress toward homeownership.
